Call for including multifunctional bidirectional ventilation units in the revision of the Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 1253/2014 (GEN - 965.00)

Joint letter of Eurovent and multiple industry associations

GEN - 965.00. Multiple industry associations including Eurovent have shared concerns with the European Commission over the approach taken to the integration of multifunctional units within the EU’s framework for Energy Related Products (ERP).

The associations request that multifunctional bidirectional ventilation units should be removed from the scope of the EU 206/2013 revision (air conditioners and comfort fans) and are instead covered within EN 1253/2014 revision (ventilation units). Multifunctional units, including only one exhaust air fan, are already in the scope of Regulations 813/2016 (air heating products, cooling products, high temperature process chillers and fan coil units) and 814/2013 (water heaters and hot water storage tanks).

The associations further suggest that EN 16573 provides a ready-made foundation for facilitating the implementation of a change that will assist in delivering a measurable improvement in the energy efficiency delivered to European consumers, whilst providing a level-playing field for the uptake and future development of the technology.
