With global energy consumption related to cooling expected to triple by 2050, the world’s largest climate congregation has put cooling into the spotlight for the first time in its history. The introduction of the Global Cooling Pledge during an event on 05 December 2023 at COP28 is considered one of the key outcomes of this year’s climate conference. Cooling, refrigeration, chilling, freezing, cold chain

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have developed common definitions for these five terms. IIR has endorsed them in February 2019, and its dissemination should lead to a universal adoption.  In Europe, the new definitions should affect policy documents.

Statistical pocketbook 2018 published

The European Commission has released the 2018 pocketbook with data up to 2016. Whereas the first pocketbooks elaborated mainly on energy figures, the 2018 version also covers socio-economic indicators and the impact of the energy sector on the environment.

This Guide appears one year after the publication of the Commission Notice updating the “Blue Guide” on the implementation of EU product rules. On 457 pages, this Guide provides explanations of the concepts and requirements of the Machinery Directive to ensure uniform interpretation and application in the EU. At present, the new guide is available in English only. Translation into the other EU languages is expected.
