New Eurovent Middle East Associate Member presented market figures

Industry Networks (BNC) has joined Eurovent Middle East as an Associate Member and contributed to the Annual Meeting by providing an overview of the market development in 2019, summarising trends and giving an outlook for 2020 based on the collected data on building projects throughout the GCC. While urban and transport sectors in the UAE saw a decline in project volumes year on year, mostly due to finalisation of many EXPO 2020 projects, healthy figures in the industrial and Oil & Gas segments balanced the overall results. Figures for KSA show a strong increase of 13% overall and in the urban construction segment, putting KSA in the lead in terms of projects around the region.

Cooling, refrigeration, chilling, freezing, cold chain

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have developed common definitions for these five terms. IIR has endorsed them in February 2019, and its dissemination should lead to a universal adoption.  In Europe, the new definitions should affect policy documents.

Free energy labelling tool to support efficient choices in heating systems

Initiated in 2015 by ESTIF, the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation, and funded by the European Commission, an online tool for calculating solar devices using the SOLCAL method is under development. The test version allows users to try it out and provide feedback about the tool to the LabelPack A+ consortium. This consortium includes Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom, where national pilot projects have been developed. The main aim is to provide a tool to calculate the energy label heating packages containing various components, such as boilers, heat pumps, water heaters, storage tanks and solar panels.

Statistical pocketbook 2018 published

The European Commission has released the 2018 pocketbook with data up to 2016. Whereas the first pocketbooks elaborated mainly on energy figures, the 2018 version also covers socio-economic indicators and the impact of the energy sector on the environment.

The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) recognised that there is, notwithstanding declarations by politicians, no real model to develop a decarbonised energy system for the European Union by 2050. To address this issue, EHPA started an initiative called ‘DecarbHeat’, which would develop policy guidance, asking policy makers to define framework conditions that put a price on carbon. The Eurovent Association did not sign this initiative. An explanation…
