Next edition of Europe’s HVACR flagship event to take place from 12 to 15 October 2021

Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the organisers of the EUROVENTSUMMIT have announced the postponement of its upcoming edition to 2021. Initially scheduled for September 2020, it will now take place from 12 to 15 October 2021 in Antalya, Turkey.

EU guidance note from 22 November 2019

On 22 November, the EU Directorate General for Taxation and Customs published a guidance note in case the United Kingdom would leave the EU with no deal. If there would be no deal, the UK will withdraw from the EU on 1 February 2020. If there would be a deal, a new transition period would apply. Both the EU and the UK have been updating their guidance notes.

Guideline outlining safety standards for flammable refrigerants

The latest document by ASERCOM, the Association of European Component Manufacturers, is a guideline that provides for common interpretation of the demands for, and application of components in vapour compression systems which use flammable refrigerants. 

Next edition of Europe’s HVACR flagship event to take place in Antalya, Turkey

Representatives of ISKID (Turkey’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturers’ Association) and Eurovent signed an agreement to jointly organise the 2020 EUROVENTSUMMIT. They announced that the next edition of Europe’s major gathering for Indoor Climate (HVAC), Process Cooling, and Food Cold Chain Technologies will take place in Antalya, Turkey, from 22 to 25 September 2020.

Cooling, refrigeration, chilling, freezing, cold chain

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have developed common definitions for these five terms. IIR has endorsed them in February 2019, and its dissemination should lead to a universal adoption.  In Europe, the new definitions should affect policy documents.

UK guidance withdrawn on 19 March 2019

On 19 March 2019, the UK Government Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has released two new guidance documents that replace the earlier versions from September 2018. The two guidance documents from the UK perspective are: ‘Placing manufactured goods on the UK market if there’s no Brexit deal’ and ‘Placing manufactured goods on the EU internal market if there’s no Brexit deal’.

Draft procurement criteria nearly finalised

The second Ad-Hoc Working Group (AHWG2) meeting has resulted in a Technical Background Report with third draft criteria proposals on 29 November 2018. Comments can be made until 11 January 2019.

Update on recent publications

The F-Gas Regulation encourages the adoption of alternatives to high GWP refrigerants. The European Commission has funded the project REAL Alternatives learning programme, which provides information in 15 languages on the safe use of alternatives such as ammonia, hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide and low flammables. REAL Alternatives is a mix of e-learning, face-to-face training materials, practical exercises, assessments and an e-library of learning resources that groups the knowledge and expertise from across Europe about alternative refrigerants. 

Update on international developments

In the last week of October, the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA) hosted the 2018 Annual meeting of the International Council of Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating Manufacturers Associations (ICARHMA) – of which Eurovent is a founding member. This years’ meeting proved to be very interesting with an outlook of possible future and disruptive issues. 

Statistical pocketbook 2018 published

The European Commission has released the 2018 pocketbook with data up to 2016. Whereas the first pocketbooks elaborated mainly on energy figures, the 2018 version also covers socio-economic indicators and the impact of the energy sector on the environment.
