Pambansang Samahan NG Inhenyero Mekanikal (PSIM) is the National Association of Mechanical Engineers of the Philippines, whose many members working in the Middle East are active in its respective chapters in the Gulf. Its UAE chapter and Eurovent Middle East have now formalised their longstanding partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding, which includes support for each other’s activities and events, facilitated access to educational activities, and an exchange of experts and speakers whenever feasible.

Next edition of Europe’s HVACR flagship event to take place from 12 to 15 October 2021

Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the organisers of the EUROVENTSUMMIT have announced the postponement of its upcoming edition to 2021. Initially scheduled for September 2020, it will now take place from 12 to 15 October 2021 in Antalya, Turkey.

Eurovent Middle East, along with the Eurovent Association and other industry organisations warn of severe consequences to critical infrastructure

Dubai, 8 April 2020. Several governments around the world have imposed shutdowns of non-essential businesses as part of the measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. In some countries, this includes manufacturers, suppliers and service professionals of HVACR equipment. Eurovent Middle East, along with other international industry organisations have published a Position Paper to warn of severe consequences to critical infrastructure if the supply and servicing of HVACR equipment is halted.

Studies indicate that efforts to improve energy efficiency are slowing down

November is the time when the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Nations (UN) publish their reports. The 2019 reports confirm the trend noted in 2018 that the efforts to improve energy efficiency are slowing down. The studies also mention confirmation that the need for cooling continues to increase, as does the use of electricity. The studies provide background to these evolutions.

Statistical pocketbook 2019 published

The European Commission has released the 2019 pocketbook with data up to 2017. Whereas the first pocketbooks elaborated mainly on energy figures, the 2019 version also covers socio-economic indicators and the impact of the energy sector on the environment.

Next edition of Europe’s HVACR flagship event to take place in Antalya, Turkey

Representatives of ISKID (Turkey’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturers’ Association) and Eurovent signed an agreement to jointly organise the 2020 EUROVENTSUMMIT. They announced that the next edition of Europe’s major gathering for Indoor Climate (HVAC), Process Cooling, and Food Cold Chain Technologies will take place in Antalya, Turkey, from 22 to 25 September 2020.

A reappraisal of studies by IEA may be useful

Record temperatures are measured in Europe, and with the planet getting hotter due to climate change, similar heatwaves are predicted to happen more frequently. It is useful to revisit some of the recent scientific studies that Eurovent also brought to it members in the past years. Industry may need to reappraise the climatic conditions and test equipment for temperatures that are higher than those in standards and regulation to keep up with market evolutions, also in Europe.

Technology Collaboration Programme on Energy Efficient End-use Equipment (4E)

The IEA 4E 2018 Annual Report makes for interesting reading. It provides, amongst others, policy guidelines for motor-driven units such as fans, pumps and compressors. Within two pages, these guidelines summarise the activities and documents developed by the 4E Electric Motor System Annex (EMSA), which contains most useful information for manufacturers integrating electric motor systems. An upcoming activity will investigate the technological developments in the air conditioning industry, updating earlier reports from 2010-2011.

Update on F-Gas price evolution monitoring by Öko-Recherche

The F-Gas industry roundtable, organised by EPEE, brings together at regular intervals stakeholders to discuss progress in implementing the F-Gas Regulation. About 60 stakeholders attended the roundtable. As usual, the Öko-Recherche report was useful.

Cooling, refrigeration, chilling, freezing, cold chain

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have developed common definitions for these five terms. IIR has endorsed them in February 2019, and its dissemination should lead to a universal adoption.  In Europe, the new definitions should affect policy documents.
