Eng. Khaled Klaly, Montreal Protocol Regional Coordinator, West Asia, UNEP, discusses the expectations for COP28, opportunities and challenges facing countries in the Middle East in the fight to limit global warming, and the critical role of the RAC sector.

Key outcomes and opportunities

With global energy consumption related to cooling expected to triple by 2050, the world’s largest climate congregation has put cooling into the spotlight for the first time in its history. The introduction of the Global Cooling Pledge during an event on 05 December 2023 at COP28 is considered one of the key outcomes of this year’s climate conference. Markus Lattner, Managing Director of Eurovent Middle East, outlines several key takeaways from COP28 and its side events.

The HVACR Leadership Academy’s journey in upskilling

Following the launch of the Academy, Eurovent Middle East looks at the critical role the initiative plays in contributing to broader sustainability targets from the perspective of esteemed media organisations’ coverage of the vital and ever-evolving topic.

In an interview with Systemair, Sylvain Courtey, President of Eurovent Certita Certification, discusses what makes a Eurovent-certified HAHU stand out from other programmes and why hygienic features should be a standard offering for air handling units in all types of applications, particularly in countries in the Middle East.

Systemair experts discuss the publication of the highly popular Eurovent Recommendation 6/18 - 2022: Quality criteria for Air Handling Units, whom it was designed for and why consultants should reference it in future projects.

Stephan Eder, Director, Business Unit Climate Technology, Hoval, elaborates on the differential pressure at the plate heat exchanger and the importance of paying attention to the arrangement of the fans.

Eurovent Middle East successfully completed the first course of its recently introduced HVACR Leadership Academy. 160 registrants from 28 countries had initially signed up for the Air Handling Units (AHU) Specialisation course, comprising 9 online modules. Around 60 attendees qualified for the course certificate, with more to follow over the course of the coming weeks.

With emission reduction targets looming, the HVACR industry should leave no stone unturned when it comes to retrofitting to unlock greater efficiencies. Experts discuss opportunities in the sector and the shift in attitude required to truly move away from cost-centric thinking.

Anzala Asher, Product Engineer, Taqeef, writes on how HVAC is critical to curbing global carbon emissions, what to keep in mind to ensure buildings are designed to meet the region’s net-zero goals and why VRF systems can unlock significant energy savings.

In this editorial, Tariq Al Ghussein, President of Eurovent Middle East, reflects on Eurovent Middle East's 5-year anniversary congress and gives his thanks to partners that made it possible.
