Review study of air-conditioners’ regulations (GEN - 856.00)

2nd stakeholder meeting to take place in Brussels on 12 January 2018

GEN - 856.00. The draft reports of Task 3 “Users”, 4 “Technologies” and 5 “Environment & Economics” within the review study of the regulation on ecodesign and labelling requirements for air conditioners and comfort fans have been made available for discussion during the 2nd stakeholder meeting on 12 January 2018 in Brussels.

The study commenced in February 2017 and is expected to finish by mid-2018. The seven task reports are scheduled to be available by end of 2017. Some delay has occurred and the draft Task 6 and 7 reports still must be published.

The seven reports are:

  • Task 1: Scope (definitions, standards and legislation)
  • Task 2: Markets (volumes and prices)
  • Task 3: Users (product demand side)
  • Task 4: Technologies (product supply side, includes both BAT and BNAT)
  • Task 5: Environment & Economics (Base case LCA & LCC)
  • Task 6: Design options
  • Task 7: Scenarios (Policy, scenario, impact and sensitivity analysis)

In August, CECED and Eurovent provided joint comments on Task 1 and 2 to the consortium carrying out the study.

The draft reports of Task 3, 4 and 5 serve as background documents for the upcoming stakeholder meeting on 12 January 2018 that will take place from 9:30 to 17:00 in Brussels. The documents can be download from the project website: https://www.eco-airconditioners.eu.

Recommended Actions

Eurovent Members and Affiliated Manufacturers (specifically PG-AC and PG-FANS members) are asked to carefully analyse these three new task reports and to provide the Secretariat with comments and suggestions before the upcoming stakeholder meeting on 12 January 2018.

It is believed that all manufacturers affected by this review have registered on the project website. Those who have not done so are recommended to register.
